We do appreciate that art provides an excellent way to enrich the currciulum and link to other curriculum areas. Links to themes or projects can still be made, but from a position of far greater strength and understanding. Our artistic programme provides a platform for participation, exchange and dialogue for artists, our partners and diverse audiences.

If you go for an interview, if they can see that you’re confident it is better for them because they know that they can ask questions that need to be asked. Creativity is critical thinking and without it how are you going to open up and ask harder questions? The programme also encourages risk-taking, exploration and connectivity with the process of learning. The Art of Learning is a valuable and imaginative addition to class and school strategies for raising attainment, improving well-being and supporting inclusion. In the final stage of the course, for the Faculty wide Major Project, you will write either a dissertation of 10,000-12,000 words or you will develop work for exhibition at the end of year MA show supported by a smaller amount of text. Its aim is to facilitate new young audiences in creating, experimenting and engaging in our galleries and online with Tate’s collection and exhibitions. Tracking Arts Learning and Engagement was a collaborative research project involving Tate, The Royal Shakespeare Company and the University of Nottingham. The research focused on thirty secondary schools spread across England and included three special schools.

Communication, but also translation and interpretation intended from a linguistic, visual, cultural, artistic and curatorial perspective, are crucial when working internationally with different communities. This module is for those students who aim at working and researching in a transcultural global environment more critically and effectively. Having moved with the Music Service from the Local Authority into Edsential, I am really excited to have been asked to review the cultural offer from our organisation, including the creative and performing arts in Edsential Residential Service. As designated Deputy Safeguarding Lead for Edsential as well as continuing my Advisory role, I am passionate about promoting engaging, safe activities for children and young people. This module aims to convey the alternative histories of art and design education from the fifteenth century to the present day. In the context of the relationship between arts practice, art educational practices and the influence of broad educational beliefs upon the nature of art education a number of narrative themes are introduced.

Tutors want to know that you can handle postgraduate study, so show them how your undergraduate experiences or work life has equipped you for a more advanced level of study. Key areas to address are research and group work but this can vary depending on your chosen course. Pursue your interests within the expanded field of arts education through research and practice.

Facilities & Staff

This module will examine the diverse roles and practices of the arts in educational settings since 2000. It maps contemporary practices through educational and artistic trends and the political and cultural contexts within which art education is located globally. The application of these contexts is considered within formal school-based art education, museum and gallery education, dialogical art practices and participatory community arts. This Module, in partnership with The Whitechapel Gallery, Cubitt and The South London Gallery, gives you the opportunity to engage in a study of contemporary art practices in order to develop pedagogical and artistic knowledge and understanding.

The first core modules- Narratives of Art & Design Education encourage students to develop related research ideas relevant to their particular interests and aspirations. The module is an opportunity to learn and critically reflect on the skills of collaboration by enabling you to create a research-informed interdisciplinary project with students from complementary disciplines, or with academic staff. You should also mention your future plans and how a postgraduate qualification fits in. Try to look beyond your postgraduate study – do you plan to jump straight into a specific career or follow your studies with a research degree? Lastly, use plain, professional English and, where possible, utilise the language of your chosen industry.

You will be supported by a highly professional staff team, doctoral researchers, technical demonstrators and artists in residence in a innovative, creative and supportive environment. Innovative community of experienced and aspiring art educators, welcoming those willing to critique current practices to ask not only how we should teach art, but also how art can teach us. This also enables part-time and full-time students to attend the same evening teaching sessions and therefore form a collaborative and supportive learning environment. To enable greater flexibility for you and more equitable experience for full-time and part-time students, the MA Arts and Learning programme has a modular structure, with the majority of teaching sessions usually conducted in the evenings. You’ll be part of a diverse student community, and will have the opportunity to develop and maintain collaborative peer networks and support.

The Educational Studies Building offers a wide range of seminar and larger teaching rooms designed for flexibility and practical work, and two IT/ICT suites with state-of-the-art computer equipment. One can donate freely towards Akshara Foundation of arts and learning for the development and betterment of not privileged children by giving them an opportunity to do more and be more. Akshara Foundation of Arts and Learning , founded in 2007, is a Mumbai-based not-for-profit public trust that works across several areas, all focused on integrating the arts into education. The resources included are suitable for pupils of all abilities, and can be confidently delivered by specialist and non-specialist teachers a like.
