The project has just launched a brand new set of Ten Pieces with resources for 7-14 year-olds including short introductory videos, full orchestral performances, instrumental and vocal arrangements, and 6-weeks’ of lesson plans. Each year the project invites schools to send in creative responses to the music to be featured on the BBC website. There are six In Harmony programmes currently running in Lambeth, Liverpool, Nottingham, Telford, Stoke-on-Trent, Leeds and Newcastle-upon-Tyne serving over 45 schools and 8,000 children most in need. Participating schools commit significant curriculum hours each week to ensemble music-making, through instrumental lessons, and music sessions. Since the programme’s inception in 2008 there has been strong evidence of the positive impact on the personal, social, educational and musical development of young people that have participated. World of Art was introduced in 2010 with the aim of bringing the work of contemporary visual artists to the festival.
