You might be a teacher who writes; a writer who works in education; a poet, a novelist or a short story writer. Whatever your background, this course will teach you more about the connections between creative writing and education. If you’re invited to interview, you may be asked to bring a small portfolio of work as a starting point for discussion, comprising of either current or past practice. Occasionally, we’ll make candidates an offer of a place on the basis of their application and qualifications alone. Please note that due to staff research commitments not all of these modules may be available every year. For you to obtain the postgraduate degree of MA Arts and Leaning you will need to complete 180 credits at Masters level.

This module will examine the diverse roles and practices of the arts in educational settings since 2000. It maps contemporary practices through educational and artistic trends and the political and cultural contexts within which art education is located globally. The application of these contexts is considered within formal school-based art education, museum and gallery education, dialogical art practices and participatory community arts. This Module, in partnership with The Whitechapel Gallery, Cubitt and The South London Gallery, gives you the opportunity to engage in a study of contemporary art practices in order to develop pedagogical and artistic knowledge and understanding.
Every year Tate Modern hosts ASSEMBLY, a special event for around 1500 London school students and their teachers. The students are invited to occupy, explore and take part in activities in Tate’s Blavatnik building and Turbine hall – which are closed to all other visitors. BCUIC is part of the global Navitas Group, an internationally recognised education provider, and the partnership allows students to access the University’s facilities and services and move seamlessly through to achieving a Bachelor’s degree from Birmingham City University. This module will explore publishing as a dynamic contemporary art form, a vehicle for the dissemination of ideas and an exploration of radical formats for bringing your art to a wider public. The first core modules- Narratives of Art & Design Education encourage students to develop related research ideas relevant to their particular interests and aspirations. The module is an opportunity to learn and critically reflect on the skills of collaboration by enabling you to create a research-informed interdisciplinary project with students from complementary disciplines, or with academic staff. You should also mention your future plans and how a postgraduate qualification fits in. Try to look beyond your postgraduate study – do you plan to jump straight into a specific career or follow your studies with a research degree?
