Training is provided through the network in order for artists to shape their work with the needs of schools in mind. We have an open submission policy for artists, curators and potential partners. We will consider all proposals and their fit with our curatorial ethos, its potential to align with our audience development objectives and artistic quality. We work in partnership to develop projects by providing assistance with fundraising, research and development and curatorial support and we will build long-term relationships with artists working with them in varied capacities over a period of time. New teachers as well as established practitioners can benefit from taking part, with the aim of the programme being to motivate educators to consider dynamic new practices and approaches to learning and teaching. The toolkit offers a framework that supports teachers to develop their own creativity and reflective practice, finding new ways of stimulating their learners’ imaginations through session plans that engage and inspire new perspectives on curriculum themes, topics or subjects.

That for many schools, an ongoing exploration of materials will provide an accessible and effective starting point. This exploration will help the children grow in confidence and understanding and promote self-directed learning. Manipulating materials helps children explore processes, and these in turn can be applied to concepts. Many of the resources in the subject areas centre around an exploration of materials and processes. The All-Wales Arts and Education Offer provides opportunities for schools to work with artists and cultural organisations. This module provides a grounding in arts and transcultural communication, using artistic practices and discursive frameworks to highlight and examine issues related to communication.

The initiative was found to have a strong, positive effect on the writing outcomes of low attaining pupils. We believe that creativity matters, and we want to see the creative skills of learners developed across the school curriculum. If English isn’t your first language, you will need an IELTS score of 6.5 with a 6.5 in writing and no element lower than 6.0 to study this programme.

First of all, AccessArt believes all children have a right to an excellent and rigorous art education. These residential courses are attended by over 1,000 students a year and the feedback from pupils and teachers alike is that they contribute to achieving higher grades. Delivery for an Arts Project is school-based and may begin with a visit to a cultural venue or landmark, a creative workshop or a book / author study, and culminate in an exhibition / performance in an inspiring setting. Arts education can also help with developing skills and ways of working that will benefit you in the future in whatever career you choose. The art room is a space where students have the freedom to express their ideas and thoughts and work creatively.

  • Whilst we appreciate many schools approach art in a project or theme-based manner, our experience is that when art is taught as a distinct subject in a skills-based manner there is clearer progression and the teaching and learning is more rigorous.

Exposure to the arts can unlock potential in young people, helping them to develop skills in communication, collaboration, creativity and problem solving. In addition to the enjoyment and enrichment the arts bring, arts education can increase young people’s engagement in school and learning, and support key educational outcomes. For many young people, particularly those experiencing the most disadvantage, the only opportunity to gain access to arts education is at school.

The purpose of this module is to introduce you to contemporary curatorial thinking. You will be supported to develop skills in confidently articulating your knowledge in verbal and written forms. The purpose of the module is to enable you to undertake a sustained, in-depth and theoretically informed research project exploring an area that is of personal interest to you. It is important that we can support you appropriately, so you will be guided towards choosing a research topic which is relevant to your discipline and in which your lecturers have expertise. The outcome may take the form of a written dissertation or a practical outcome with accompanying reflective, critical and contextual material. The main consideration when choosing your topic is that it must be relevant to your programme and you should consider the relevance of this topic to your future academic or professional development.

It’s not currently possible for international students to study part-time if you require a Student Visa, however this is currently being reviewed and will be confirmed in the new year. The modules of the programme are all underpinned with theories of contemporary art, learning and critical and dialectical pedagogical theories and philosophies.

Our toolkit comprises session plans, input from artists and creative practitioners, digital assessments and technical support throughout. This module enables you to articulate in verbal and written forms the breadth and depth of your knowledge and understanding of relevant theories and contexts in relationship to your arts based practice, placement, internship or other negotiated professional engagement. We want you to be deeply engaged with theory and practice to develop and sustain your ideas and practices as artist-teachers. That schools work hard to break down preconceptions amongst teachers and pupils as to what drawing or sculpture is or might be.
