First of all, AccessArt believes all children have a right to an excellent and rigorous art education. These residential courses are attended by over 1,000 students a year and the feedback from pupils and teachers alike is that they contribute to achieving higher grades. Delivery for an Arts Project is school-based and may begin with a visit to a cultural venue or landmark, a creative workshop or a book / author study, and culminate in an exhibition / performance in an inspiring setting. Arts education can also help with developing skills and ways of working that will benefit you in the future in whatever career you choose. The art room is a space where students have the freedom to express their ideas and thoughts and work creatively.
- This also enables part-time and full-time students to attend the same evening teaching sessions and therefore form a collaborative and supportive learning environment.
- The programme places a strong emphasis on student-centred and directed learning.
- Students use sketchbooks to record, from first- hand experience, their personal responses to the Renaissance works of art, thus developing their critical appraisal skills and adding to their knowledge and understanding of the theory and practice of art.
- Akshara Foundation of Arts and Learning , founded in 2007, is a Mumbai-based not-for-profit public trust that works across several areas, all focused on integrating the arts into education.
- That schools consider teaching art & design at Key Stage 1 and 2 as a distinct subject.
- This module enables you to articulate in verbal and written forms the breadth and depth of your knowledge and understanding of relevant theories and contexts in relationship to your arts based practice, placement, internship or other negotiated professional engagement.
Whilst the full impact of the current pandemic is unclear, we are in no doubt about the immediate challenges that many of the organisations and people we fund, and the individuals and communities they support, are facing. All full-time MAAL students will be allocated an individual studio space at 288 NX Road for the duration of their study. We accept applications from October for students wanting to start the following September. You’ll be asked to upload/include up to 10 images of your practice/art work as part of your application. The images can be of present and/or past personal art work/performance/installation etc.
Studying With Us During The Covid
Every student at the University can download a free copy of Microsoft Office 365 to use whilst at university and for 18 months after graduation. If you’re unable to use the online form for any reason, you can complete our PDF application form and equal opportunities PDF form instead. Join us for an on-campus Open Day where you’ll be able to explore our campus and facilities in person. We work with each individual student to develop a route through the course to match their aspirations.
Our students come from diverse phases and sectors in the field of art and design education and the expanded fields of gallery, community and self organised educational practices. Through the course individual perspectives and experiences meet with those of your peers providing you with the stimulation and challenges that different perceptions can bring. We seek to evolve a dialogue through direct experience and engagement with the arts and their value as taught subjects, both within the institution and outside of it. That schools consider teaching art & design at Key Stage 1 and 2 as a distinct subject. Whilst we appreciate many schools approach art in a project or theme-based manner, our experience is that when art is taught as a distinct subject in a skills-based manner there is clearer progression and the teaching and learning is more rigorous.
The Art Of Learning
The course is based at Birmingham School of Art , a fine example of Venetian Gothic architecture and an impressive purpose built Grade I listed art school. We have made a five-year commitment to 11 organisations in the latest round of the Backbone Fund. The Fund is unrestricted and aims to underpin leading organisations that contribute to the overall health of the sectors we support.
By creating a safe and nurturing environment, pupils are encouraged to take creative risks and to learn from the journey, rather than head towards a pre-defined end result. Basic skills are introduced and then built upon, including drawing, printmaking, sketchbooks, painting and making. Skills are revisited and the use of ongoing sketchbook work underpins this process.

Exposure to the arts can unlock potential in young people, helping them to develop skills in communication, collaboration, creativity and problem solving. In addition to the enjoyment and enrichment the arts bring, arts education can increase young people’s engagement in school and learning, and support key educational outcomes. For many young people, particularly those experiencing the most disadvantage, the only opportunity to gain access to arts education is at school.
