Aerobic or strength training has been shown to improve IC 60 , although to a lesser extent than practicing an open-skill sport 26 ; therefore, assigning endurance athletes to the control group aimed to minimize the effect of sport practice. Based on our findings, we may have underestimated the positive effects of aerobic training or chronic physical activity on IC 61,62 . The results would rather suggest that the longterm practice of an endurance sport such as running, cycling, swimming or cross-country skiing led to the same level of IC proficiency as the practice of an open-skill sport when IC was assessed with a sport-nonspecific task.
