School Of Arts + Media

At Plymouth College of Art, we invite and inspire new modes of creative practice that redefine citizenship in the 21st century. Our programmes examine the interconnectedness of the arts and society, exploring distinct disciplines, expanded fields of study, and the spaces emerging between, across and beyond. Arts & Media School Islington’s vision of “every child a scholar” is built upon a strong academic GCSE core, enriched by the arts. The school aims to establish challenging academic goals, which its students are expected to aspire towards and surpass. The cornerstones of its ethos – aspiration, confidence, respect and reflection – are embedded in everyday life within the school community. Assessment is an integral part of your university studies and usually consists of a combination of coursework and examinations, although this will vary from course to course – on some of our courses, assessment is entirely by coursework.

Class sizes vary, depending on your course, the module you are undertaking, and the method of teaching. For example, lectures are presented to larger groups, whereas seminars usually consist of small, interactive groups led by a tutor. Our assessments, publications and research spread knowledge, spark enquiry and aid understanding around the world.

You will need to budget additional funds for accommodation and living expenses, travel, and any additional trips, visits, activities or courses that you choose to participate in outside of the tuition offered as part of the programme. Our courses have strong links with leading media figures who will offer you professional insights, and you’ll benefit from work experience opportunities with television companies, radio stations, PR agencies and fashion brands. From traditional to digital media, our communications and media degrees will prepare you to make your career in this fascinating sector. Our fun projects include singing and signing choirs, accessible music-making groups and specialist creative sensory activities.

If you are an overseas student requiring visa sponsorship to study in the UK, our team will be in touch with information on applying for your student visa and the documents you will need. You might want to work in radio, edit a magazine, break stories in a bustling newsroom, or bring brands to life on social media. Whatever your ambition, we will give you the skills to source great stories and tell them your way. We champion and celebrate the skills and talents of local communities, young people and adults with disabilities and we have a vision for a more inclusive world where everyone gets the chance to shine. Plymouth College of Art is known internationally as home to physical and digital working environments that encompass some of the richest and most diverse ecosystems of materials, technologies, processes and practices available in an art school. Our industry-focused, socially engaged and multidisciplinary programmes are designed to nurture your talent and prepare you to succeed.
